PNP probes fake class, work suspensions
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating a social media post about nationwide work and class suspensions from March 4 to 6 due to an alleged security threat.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered the Anti-Cybercrime Group to unmask the people behind the fake post.
“The deliberate spread of false information that causes unnecessary alarm will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
Nartatez said there is no basis to the alleged security treat, adding that the advisory did not originate from any government agency.
The PNP is coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety, Nartatez said.
“We urge the public to remain calm and rely only on announcements released through official government channels,” he said.
Nartatez urged netizens not to share fake social media posts to prevent misinformation.
