MANILA, Philippines — Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have rescued a Chinese woman and arrested two Chinese suspects in an alleged kidnapping for ransom in Quezon City.

The probe began after the victim’s boyfriend reported her missing.

Authorities found that the victim was being held against her will.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded P500,000 in exchange for her release after allegedly forcing her to transfer about P832,000 through online transactions.

Investigators said the suspects allowed a video call showing the victim with bruises and threatening to kill or dismember her if the ransom was not paid by Feb. 10.

Communication with the suspects shifted to social media application Telegram to avoid detection.

Members of the NBI’s International Operations Division carried out the entrapment at a hotel where the marked money was handed over, leading to the arrest of two Chinese nationals and the victim’s rescue.

The suspects are facing complaints for kidnapping and serious illegal detention in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
