Streetwear not basis for detention – Taguig police

MANILA, Philippines — Police yesterday assured the “young stunna” or youth dressed in streetwear roaming around Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig that they would not be detained on the basis of their clothing.

Wearing this viral getup reportedly hinders youth from entering BGC, a private property managed by Fort Bonifacio Development Corp., as videos of some teenagers causing a commotion circulate online.

The STAR asked Taguig police sub-station 1, which has jurisdiction over Fort Bonifacio, whether it has received formal complaints about teenagers causing trouble in BGC over the past few days.

Capt. Jerson Castillo did not directly answer the question, but said he understands if BGC takes action over these “young stunna.”

“A lot of things are going viral in BGC,” Castillo said. “I think this is just a precautionary measure for the minors.”

Castillo said police have no say over the rules being implemented in BGC.

“That is a private property. So we’re just here to assist,” he said.

According to Castillo, teenagers roaming BGC in streetwear will not be arrested.

“We are not arresting teenagers if there are no illegal grounds,” he said.

The STAR messaged BGC’s administrative office to clarify its policy on “young stunna,” but has not received a reply.
