New NAIA e-gates, food halls now open

MANILA, Philippines — As part of the upgrade of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the largest terminal at the NAIA is getting new passenger facilities, from electronic gates to food halls.

The New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) yesterday said new e-gates would be rolled out today at Terminals 1 and 3 to speed up the immigration process for international travelers.

The e-gates, according to NNIC, enable passengers to complete immigration clearance in about 20 minutes, minimizing queueing traffic during high-traffic periods.

The e-gates rely on biometric identity verification and travel document authentication to hasten processing without failing security requirements of border authorities.

The NNIC is also opening the All-Filipino Tambayan and Mezzanine food halls as well as the new dignitaries lounge at Terminal 3. — Rudy Santos
