President Marcos unveils Phase 4 of Pasig River rehab project
MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday led the launching of the fourth phase of a project seeking to restore the Pasig River to its former glory, boost tourism and promote transport connectivity in Metro Manila.
Phase 4 of the P18-billion project covers 380 meters and involves developing walkways, bicycle lanes, commercial spaces and bridges. It aims to seamlessly link the first phase of the project to the Light Rail Transit Authority property and extend all the way to Arroceros Forest Park along the Pasig River.
“Every time we gather here by the Pasig River. we are reminded that progress does not always mean building something new. Sometimes, progress means bringing something beautiful back to life,” Marcos said in a speech at the Metropolitan Theater.
“Beyond the sights and sounds, this project is for everyone. So people can find time to relax in a bustling city in the midde of a busy day,” he added.
The event was attended by First Lady Liza Marcos, Speaker Faustino Dy, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Pasig River Rehabilitation Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, Tourism Secretary Maria Christina Frasco, Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Romando Artes, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Asian Development Bank country director Andrew Jeffries.
