MANILA, Philippines — Pope Leo XIV has appointed seminary rector Fr. Edwin Panergo as the new bishop of the Diocese of Boac in Marinduque.

According to the CBCPNews, the Diocese of Boac has not had a bishop since November last year. During the vacancy, Fr. Elino Esplana administered the diocese.

Panergo, 57, is the rector of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Seminary in Sariaya, Quezon and Commission on Vocation director of the Diocese of Lucena.

He will succeed Bishop Marcelino Antonio Maralit Jr., who led Boac for nine years before he was transferred to the Diocese of San Pablo in Laguna last year.
