Bulacan marks Del Pilar’s birth anniversary

MALOLOS, Philippines — It’s a non-working holiday in Bulacan today to commemorate the 175th birth anniversary of Marcelo H. del Pilar.

Republic Act (RA) 7449, enacted on April 26, 1992, declared Aug. 30 of every year as a special non-working holiday in Bulacan to allow residents to participate in events intended to honor Del Pilar.

The tribute to Del Pilar, themed “Inspirasyon ng Kabataan sa Matatag na Kinabukasan” will start with a mass at the Marcelo H. Del Pilar Shrine in Barangay San Nicolas, Bulakan town.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro is the guest of honor at the event.

On this day, the country also celebrates National Press Freedom Day as provided under RA 11699, which was enacted on April 13, 2022.
