PCG deploys more K9 teams in MRT, LRT stations
MANILA, Philippines — At least 274 Philippine Coast Guard personnel were deployed to help boost security in key Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations, the PCG said yesterday.
In a statement, the PCG said it deployed K9 teams, marshals and Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians across all MRT stations and key LRT stations to reinforce security in railway hubs for the Bantay Biyaheng Matiwasay initiative.
“All 13 MRT stations, LRT-1 Taft Station and LRT-2 Recto Station, including their footbridges and pathways, are now being manned round-the-clock by dedicated K9 teams on 24/7 duty,” the PCG said.
According to the Coast Guard K9 Force, this measure not only strengthens security and safety but also helps manage the heavy influx of passengers, especially with the removal of x-ray machines at train stations.
“With these valuable and highly trained assets, the PCG stands watch to provide safe, secure and smooth journeys for all commuters in Metro Manila,” the statement read.
The deployment of PCG personnel in train stations is in line with the directive of President Marcos and Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon for the PCG to enhance security measures in Metro Manila railway systems.
