DOH logs fewer rabies cases

MANILA, Philippines — Over 200 rabies cases were recorded nationwide in the past seven months, according to the Department of Health.

The DOH said 211 rabies cases were logged from Jan. 1 to Aug. 2. The figure is 21 percent lower compared to the cases posted during the same period last year.

Despite the drop in cases, the DOH advised the public not to be complacent because rabies can be deadly.

The DOH also encouraged the public to have their pets vaccinated against rabies.

The number of people bitten by their pets are equal to those bitten by stray animals, the DOH noted, adding that “vaccination is the most effective protection against rabies.”
