BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The combined effects of Tropical Storm Emong and the southwest monsoon have destroyed P6.8 million worth of power infrastructure in Benguet, including Baguio City as of Thursday.

Power restoration is ongoing in Baguio and Benguet, according to the Benguet Electric Cooperative.

Beneco said power has been restored in 96.4 percent of households and 98.4 percent of barangays served by the power cooperative.

Baguio accounted for the highest amount of damage with P4.53 million, while Benguet incurred P2.3 million in losses to the power industry.

Beneco said the figures are expected to rise as more towns have yet to submit reports on the matter.

Authorities blamed the blackouts on landslides as well as trees and electric posts toppled by Emong.

Flooding delayed restoration efforts as linemen had to wait for government workers to clear roads of rocks and soil.
