Government to boost internet access in public schools

MANILA, Philippines — The Marcos administration aims to achieve full connectivity by yearend to boost internet access in all public schools, including those in remote areas.
President Marcos yesterday led a connectivity drive at Flora A. Ylagan High School in Quezon City, where he had a virtual interaction with teachers and learners from remote places to highlight ongoing efforts to enhance digital access.
The event was attended by Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara joined virtually from Agusan del Norte.
Educators and students from Batanes, Bulacan, Quezon, Marinduque, Camarines Sur, Cebu, Tawi-Tawi, Misamis Occidental, Surigao del Norte, Apayao and Agusan del Norte whose campuses are now powered by Starlink internet connectivity also joined the event.
“We are working toward 100 percent connectivity by the end of the year,” the President said.
Marcos said internet access allows students to learn new things.
“You have a nice new toy. Use it as you wish,” he told students during an online conference call.
The connectivity drive seeks to bridge the digital divide in public schools by increasing internet connectivity.
