MANILA, Philippines —  Five people, including a baby and two children, died when a fire broke out in Barangay Buting, Pasig on Wednesday night.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze started at a four-story house along E. Mendoza street at 10:56 p.m. The BFP declared fire out at 11:58 p.m.

The fire destroyed five houses and displaced 11 families.

According to reports, the fatalities include a 39-year-old woman, her one-year-old baby and 11-year-old daughter.

Their neighbor, said to be a government employee, and his 15-year-old son also died in the fire.

The bodies of the victims were retrieved by arson probers yesterday.

Damage to property was estimated at P600,000.

Arson probers have yet to determine what caused the fire.

Forty-four firetrucks, including nine from the BFP and 35 from local government units and volunteer groups, responded.
