ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has opened the first flyover in Zamboanga City, the first in Zamboanga peninsula.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan lead the opening of the P470-million Governor Camins/Maria Clara Lobregat Highway and Veterans Avenue flyover with a walkthrough and inspection.

He was joined by outgoing Mayor John Dalipe, DPWH regional director Cayamombao Dia and other DPWH officials as well as representatives from the Asian Development Bank, Department of Finance, and Department of Economy, Planning and Development.

The flyover is 437.70 linear meters long, including the main bridge and its approaches. It starts at the Governor Camins Avenue and ends at the MCLL Highway in Barangay Tetuan.

Lobregat initiated the project to boost economic growth and address the city’s worsening traffic conditions.

Bonoan described the construction of the flyover as “quite a feat” as it was completed in just two years and six months.

Editor's note: This story by The Philippine STAR has been revised to remove the name of former congresswoman Maria Clara Lobregat from the list of inspection attendees. Maria Clara Lobregat has since passed away.
