Debris warning issued as China launches rocket

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) has advised residents of Cagayan and Ilocos Norte to watch out for debris that may fall from a rocket launched by China on Tuesday night.
In an advisory, the PhilSA said a Long March 7A rocket was launched at 7:50 p.m. from the Wenchang Space site in Wenchang, Hainan.
“Expected debris from the rocket launch was projected to have fallen within identified drop zones, approximately located 62 nautical miles from Dalapuri Island, 80 NM from Camiguin Norte and 68 NM from Santa Ana in Cagayan as well as 40 NM from Burgos town in Ilocos Norte,” the PhilSA said.
The space agency said details of the rocket drop zones were disclosed through a notice to airmen, warning pilots about the “aerospace flight activity.”
The PhilSA has informed relevant government agencies and authorities prior to the launch.
It urged the public to report to local authorities sightings of suspected debris from the Chinese rocket.
Residents have been informed not to retrieve or come in close contact with the rocket materials as these may contain toxic substances like rocket fuel.
