COTABATO CITY — Anti-narcotics agents seized P6.8 million worth of shabu from a peddler entrapped in Barangay Chinese Pier in downtown Jolo, Sulu on Monday, May 19.

The 37-year-old suspect, Abdul Munin Burani Akmad, is now locked in a police detention facility in Jolo, awaiting prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Gil Cesario Castro, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, told reporters on Tuesday, May 20, that the suspect yielded peacefully when he discovered that he had sold a kilo of shabu to agents of PDEA-BARMM and policemen during a tradeoff along Serantes Street in Barangay Chinese Pier in Jolo.

Castro said they are thankful to officials of the Philippine Coast Guard in the province, the Jolo Municipal Police Station and the Sulu Provincial Police Office for supporting the entrapment operation that resulted in the confiscation from Akmad of P6.8 million worth of shabu.

Radio reports on Tuesday morning stated that members of the multi-sector Sulu Provincial Peace and Order Council, chaired by Gov. Hadji Abdusakur Tan Sr., assured the PDEA-BARMM that they would help identify Akmad's accomplices in Jolo and other towns in the province so they could be charged with corresponding cases in court.
