Antipolo bakery massacre suspect charged

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Police have filed criminal charges against a man tagged in the killing of seven people in a bakery in Antipolo City, Rizal.
The suspect, identified only as Bogart, was charged with seven counts of murder before the Office of the City Prosecutor on Thursday.
Bogart, 35, reportedly co-owns the J&B Malunggay Bakery in Barangay Cupang where the victims, including the owner, were found dead on Tuesday moring.
Col. Felipe Maraggun, Rizal police director, said the case is considered solved with the arrest and filing of charges against the suspect.
Bogart executed an extra-judicial confession in the presence of his counsel, according to Lt. Col. Ryan Manongdo, Antipolo police chief.
Manongdo said probers are waiting for results of laboratory tests to determine if the suspect was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he committed the crime.
Probers said witnesses’ accounts and video footage of a closed-circuit television camera confirmed the claims of the suspect that he committed the crime alone.
Bogart claimed he was defending himself because the victims allegedly planned to kill him so they could have the bakery to themselves.
