New concourses for EDSA busway eyed by 2026
MANILA, Philippines — To improve the EDSA busway, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has outlined short-term and long-term changes for the infrastructure that serves 177,000 commuters daily.
The DOTr will build dedicated concourses for each of the 23 stops along the busway, from Monumento to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the DOTr would emulate the design of the concourses that the SM Group is putting up near its malls in Ortigas in Mandaluyong and North Avenue in Quezon City.
The DOTr targets to bid out the contracts for the construction of the projects by May.
Dizon said the DOTr can award the segments by June to commence the civil works in the second half of the year.
“Hopefully, the busway would have its own concourses by the first quarter of 2026,” he said.
Dizon believes that a dedicated entrance for the EDSA bus lane would enhance its accessibility.
Currently, commuters have to ascend the stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 to reach the curbside of the EDSA Carousel where buses stop to pick up and drop off passengers.
The DOTr is also planning to add more stops in the southern portion of the busway leading to the PITX to serve commuters from Makati, Pasay and Parañaque.
