MANILA, Philippines — A 73-year-old woman was among the rescued tenants of an eighth-floor residential building, which caught fire in Tondo, Manila on Wednesday.

Perlita Alim was treated with an oxygen mask.

The fire broke out in a unit on the seventh floor of the building at the corner of Albuquerque and Padre Rada streets in Barangay 7 Zone 2, the Bureau of Fire Protection’s National Capital Region office said.

The fire reached second alarm. Forty firetrucks responded.

Five other tenants, including three girls, were rescued.

Manila Fire District chief Senior Supt. Aristotle Bañaga said the blaze displaced six families or 18 people.

Damage to property was placed at P1.1 million.

Arson probers have yet to determine what caused the fire.
