MANILA, Philippines — A woman died and six others were injured after a sport utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into a bank in Quezon City on Thursday afternoon.

The incident in the bank branch along Quirino Highway in Barangay Pasong Putik occurred at around 4:45 p.m., the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said in a report.

The vehicle involved was an SUV driven by 57-year-old Edwin Balisong.

Probers said Balisong was moving his vehicle in reverse when he hit another SUV that was parked in front of the bank.

Balisong tried to stop his vehicle but instead of using the brakes, he stepped on the accelerator and the SUV crashed into the bank entrance.

Seven people were brought to several hospitals for medical treatment, but one of them died at around 12 a.m.

The QCPD identified the victim as Rosali dela Cruz, a client of the bank who succumbed to her injuries at the Commonwealth Hospital and Medical Center.

The injured were three bank employees, a security guard and two customers. Three are still recuperating from their injuries while the other three were discharged from hospitals.

Balisong was brought to the QCPD’s Traffic Sector 2 for investigation. He could face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries and damage to property.
