MANILA, Philippines — Police apprehended yesterday the suspect in the Molotov explosion at the parking area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

Renieldo dela Peña Perez, a former taxi driver, is facing charges of attempted arson.

Probers said an informant went to the airport police and identified Perez as the one who reportedly threw the bomb that went off at the NAIA parking lot, damaging three vehicles.

A complaint for alarm and scandal was also filed against the suspect before the Pasay City prosecutor’s office.

Perez is being held at the Pasay City police station.

Manila International Airport Authority officer-in-charge Bryan Co said the incident’s swift resolution highlights the MIAA’s commitment to maintaining the safety of travelers as well as airport personnel.
