PNPA cadet dismissed for maltreatment

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) has expelled a cadet who maltreated an underclassman.

The PNPA cadet, who was not identified, was dismissed on Wednesday after investigation by a disciplinary board found him guilty of maltreating a fourth class cadet.

PNPA director Maj. Gen. Eric Noble said the cadet filed a motion for reconsideration, which prompted a review of the case.

Noble upheld the academic board’s resolution, saying the evidence against the cadet was strong.

He said the decision reflects the PNPA’s commitment to strictly implement the campaign against hazing and guard against maltreatment policy.

Noble said the policy emphasizes the zero-tolerance approach toward abusive behavior within the institution and reinforces the PNPA’s stance against any form of maltreatment.

The crackdown against erring students has resulted in the dismissal of 12 cadets since January this year.

On Tuesday, two second class cadets were dismissed after they were caught cheating during an examination.
