Roxas Boulevard closed for Independence Day rites

Mark Ernest Villeza - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Roxas Boulevard in Manila will be closed to traffic for the 125th commemoration of the proclamation of Independence Day on June 12, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced yesterday.

The MMDA said the road closure would be implemented from both lanes of T.M. Kalaw to P. Burgos streets from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. for the flag-raising ceremony in Rizal Park.

Katigbak Parkway, South Road and Independence Road will also be shut down from 12:01 a.m. to 10 p.m. for a civic-military parade, according to the MMDA.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.

Trucks heading to North Harbor are instructed to reroute from South Luzon Expressway straight to Osmeña Highway, right to Quirino Avenue, straight to Nagtahan street and on to Lacson Avenue, left to Yuseco street, straight to Capulong street and then left to R-10 to destination.

Trucks coming from Parañaque should turn right to Quirino Avenue, proceed to Nagtahan street and on to Lacson Avenue to reach their destination.

Motorists traveling south can use the same route, the MMDA said.

To ensure smooth traffic flow during the road closure, the MMDA said it would deploy additional enforcers in the area.

Tow trucks and ambulances will be dispatched. Concrete and plastic barriers as well as traffic cones will be placed in key areas to guide motorists, the MMDA said.
