Traffic enforcer’s killer surrenders
CAMP Vicente Lim, Laguna, Philippines — A motorcycle rider who shot dead a traffic enforcer following an argument in Tanza, Cavite on Sunday and his companion surrendered yesterday.
Joseph Llagas, 37, a resident of Barangay Biga Tanza, reportedly an aide of a politician, and Aries Carlos surrendered to Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla at around 10 a.m., Col. Christopher Olazo, Cavite police director, said.
Olazo said Llagas was accompanied by his siblings.
Police said Llagas and Carlos initially relayed to Tanza Vice Mayor Archangelo Matro their decision to surrender after a reward was put up for their arrest.
The municipal government of Tanza had earlier offered a reward of P100,000 for information leading to the arrest of the assailant.
Maj. Dennis Villanueva, Tanza police chief, said murder charges were filed against Llagas before a court in Imus City.
Villanueva said witnesses positively identified Llagas as the motorist who shot William Quiambao after the traffic enforcer pulled him over in Barangay Daang Amaya.
Witnesses said Llagas, who was reportedly drunk, even attempted to run over Quiambao.
Llagas reportedly took the gun tucked in the waist of Carlos and shot the traffic enforcer.
The motorcycle of the suspects was found abandoned in Barangay Biga, also in Tanza.
