7 rescued as boat capsizes off Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — Seven people were rescued from a boat that capsized in the waters off the coast of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on Wednesday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Friday.

The PCG said the boat departed from Calintaan and was on its way to San Jose when it sank in the vicinity of the waters between White Island and Barangay Pag-asa.

The boat was reportedly hit by big waves, causing water to enter the vessel.

A search and rescue team from Barangay San Nicolas rescued five of the passengers.

The municipal government rescued two other passengers.

The PCG said three of the rescued passengers are minors.

The half-submerged motorboat was towed to the shores of Barangay Pag-asa.
