NCRPO: No Holy Week robberies in Metro

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —  The National Capital Region Police Office yesterday denied that there was a series of robbery incidents this Lenten break as alleged by a social media post.

In a statement, NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo denied the claim that a Japanese and Chinese restaurant and a coffee shop were robbed in the metropolis.

While the incident involving a Japanese restaurant happened four years ago, the other two incidents were investigated and found to be “baseless and untrue,” Okubo said.

He said the NCRPO will coordinate with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group to investigate those behind the misinformation.

Okubo urged the public to verify information before sharing it and not cause panic.

“We understand the potential damage and alarm that can be caused by false news and misinformation, particularly when shared widely on social media platforms,” he said.
