Cancer survivor claims P50.7 million lotto pot

Rainier Allan Ronda - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A 74-year-old cancer survivor who won P50.7 million in the lottery game Lotto 6/42 on Feb. 28 said he was probably the luckiest man in the world.

The winner claimed his lotto prize at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) main office in Mandaluyong City recently.

He said he has been playing the lottery for 25 years.

The lotto bettor guessed the winning combination 26-14-11-08-07-22, which carried a jackpot of P50,796,013.

“Ako na yata ang pinaka-maswerteng tao sa mundo dahil mahal ako ng Diyos,” he declared.

The lotto patron said the winning numbers were taken from the birthdates and birth months of his family members.

“Napakatagal ko nang sumusubok sa lotto. Simula 1998 ay tumataya na ako,” he said.

The winner said he was among the beneficiaries of the charity programs of the PCSO.

“Malaki ang utang na loob ko sa PCSO dahil noon pa man ay nakakahingi na ako ng tulong sa aking pagpapagamot kasama na ang operasyon ko sa kidney noong 2017,” he said.

The Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion or TRAIN Law imposes a 20 percent tax on lotto winnings above P10,000.
