Makati lauds students for high exam scores

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Makati Mayor Abby Binay yesterday congratulated the city’s students for scoring high in the Functional Academic Skills test administered by the Department of Education.

In a statement yesterday, Makati said its students got the highest grades in Math at all levels during the exams held from Feb. 20 to 24.

“Congratulations to our Proud Makatizen students for this latest achievement! Once again, you have proven that the city is on track in promoting academic excellence through substantial investments in programs aimed to continually raise the quality of our public education system,” Binay said.

Binay said city hall earmarked at least P1 billion for the students’ competency program under the schools division office sourced from the special education fund.

The city allocated at least P140.7 million from the General Fund for the city’s college scholarship program, high school scholarship program, incentives for outstanding students and school year completers, and Special Education Program.

The mayor also thanked public school teachers for their help in improving the educational system in the city.
