Manila collects garbage from estuary

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government hauled sacks of garbage from an estuary and along Baseco beach during its cleanup Monday.

At least 24 sacks of garbage were collected from the Estero de Magdalena that traverses Mayhaligue street, according to the Manila public information office, citing data from the city’s Department of Public Services (DPS).

The trash collected were mostly styrofoam, bottles, plastics and rubber items.

City hall also collected leaves, tree branches and plastic that washed ashore along the Baseco beach in Port Area.

DPS employees also trimmed the trees along Moriones street and Sevilla Extension in Tondo and along Lopez Jaena street in Paco. City hall reminded residents about the proper disposal of garbage.
