Ex-BuCor exec denies hand in Lapid slay
MANILA, Philippines — Former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) deputy for security Ricardo Zulueta has filed his counter-affidavit before the Department of Justice (DOJ), denying involvement in the murders of radio broadcaster Percy Lapid and alleged middleman Cristito “Jun” Villamor Palaña.
In a five-page affidavit filed on Feb. 15, Zulueta said he did not receive directives from suspended BuCor chief Gerald Bantag to order prison gang members to have them killed.
Based on the timeline of the kill contract mapped by the DOJ, Bantag allegedly gave the order to kill Lapid and tasked Zulueta to lay down the instructions on how to deliver the hit.
Zulueta allegedly gave the instructions to a convict who then cascaded the order to another inmate to look for a hitman outside the New Bilibid Prison.
“Bantag never ordered me to commit or facilitate the commission of a crime on his behalf,” Zulueta’s affidavit read.
