MANILA, Philippines — With the lives of people being destroyed by e-sabong, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin said online cockfighting operators should moderate their greed.

Even if the government has suspended the operations of e-sabong, the PNP has monitored online sabong websites being operated illegally and continue to get people hooked on gambling.

“The operators should also try to moderate their greed,” Azurin said in a recent press briefing, noting that most of the people who are addicted to online cockfights are from poor families.

President Marcos has adopted the policy of his predecessor for the continued suspension of electronic cockfighting.

The PNP is pushing for a law that would declare e-sabong as illegal.

Azurin said taking down e-sabong websites is an uphill battle since the PNP is dealing with technology and financiers with deep pockets.

“I think the government should also start beefing up orstrengthening our cyber-capability to include cyber-security,” he said.
