Man, daughter drown in La Union beach

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union, Philippines —  A man and his daughter drowned during a family outing on a beach in Barangay Baccuit Sur in Bauang, La Union on Monday.

Police identified the fatalities as George Gines, 67, and his daughter Geosa Gines-Osillo, 26, both residents of Baguio City.

Members of the Gines family were swimming when Osillo was swept away by the strong current.

Witnesses said Gines tried to rescue his daughter, but he was also carried away into a deep portion of the water.

The victims were declared dead on arrival at the Ilocos Training Regional and Medical Center.
