Sultan Kudarat mayor’s son, companion slain

TACURONG CITY, Philippines — A member of the Mangudadatu political clan and his companion were killed in a gun attack at a public market in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat late Tuesday.

Naga Mangudadatu, 30, and Dennis Hadji Daup, 25, died at the scene, according to town police chief Capt. Leonel Delasan.

Mangudadatu is the son of former Sultan Kudarat governor and now Mayor Ali Pax of Lutayan town.

The victim lost in his bid for vice mayor of Mangudadatu town in Maguindanao del Sur in the May elections.

His brother Suharto is the husband of Maguindanao Gov. Bai Mariam.

Delasan said Mangudadatu’s killers fled on a pickup.

Two bystanders, Watari Kalim and an 11-year-old boy, were wounded and brought to a hospital for treatment.

Brig. Gen. Jamili Macaraeg, Soccsksargen police director, said he directed the intelligence unit of the Sultan Kudarat police to help in the investigation into the incident.
