John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — An alleged Abu Sayyaf bandit wanted for a string of criminal cases was shot dead by police officers out to serve a warrant for his arrest in Parang, Sulu over the weekend.

Alal Jil Ismin Jupakkal, who had standing arrest warrants for murder, extortion, drug trafficking and kidnapping, died from multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Jupakkal and his five companions reportedly fired at the officers, who were on their way to the suspect’s hideout in Barangay Guimba Lagasan, according to Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region police director.

A brief firefight ensued and resulted in Jupakkal’s death. His cohorts scampered away.
