Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 100 members of an alleged left-leaning organization have renounced their support for the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, National Capital Region Police Office director, said yesterday the members of the Zone One Tondo Organization under the sectoral group Koalisyon ng Maralita took their pledge renouncing their membership in ZOTO and committing to abandon their leftist ideology.

They also pledged their allegiance to the government at the Libis covered court in Barangay 175 in Caloocan City.

Officials encouraged them to keep their allegiance to the government and actively take part in ending the five-decade communist insurgency.

They also participated in the ceremonial burning of CPP-NPA-NDF flags and other paraphernalia.

Last month, 10 suspected communist rebels laid down their arms and surrendered to Estomo.

He urged other rebels to surrender and return to the folds of the law.
