Motorcycle rider killed in ‘shootout’ with cops

CABANATUAN CITY, Philippines — A motorcycle rider was killed in an alleged shootout with law enforcers during pursuit operations in General Natividad, Nueva Ecija yesterday.

Reports reaching Col. Jess Mendez, acting provincial police director, said the unidentified fatality and his companion refused to pull over at a checkpoint in Sitio Pula, Barangay Manarog.

One of the suspects, who allegedly shot pursuing lawmen, was hit in the exchange of gunfire. His companion fled on foot.

Police said the gun and motorcycle used by the suspects were recovered.
