MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) continues to increase its number of passengers, reaching a peak of over 368,000 due to its free rides program.

In a statement yesterday, the MRT-3 management said a total of 368,565 passengers availed of the free rides on Friday. This means the passenger capacity exceeded pre-pandemic levels  of 250,000 to 300,000 daily riders.

The management deployed 14 to 16 three-car CKD train sets, and four four-car CKD train sets in the mainline during operation hours.

The MRT-3 also increased its train speed to 60 kilometers per hour and improved its headway between train arrivals to at least four minutes.

The free rides program is extended until June 30, resulting in an estimated P286-million revenue loss since it started March 28.

It will be up to the next administration if it wants to extend the program.
