MANILA, Philippines — For Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto, pushing for lasting reforms in government should not be centered on just one person but a collective effort of everyone.

Sotto, banking on the changes he implemented in the local government, cited as an example their Pasig’s Giting team, which he said is not centered on him or his fellow candidates.

“What we aspire for, a change that is not centered on just one person, but a change that we can truly pass on to the next generation,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.

The local chief executive is popularly known for instituting reforms that curbed corruption at city hall. He is seeking a second term in the May 9 elections.

A survey from the RP Mission and Development Foundation Inc. showed Sotto leading by 67 percent against his rival, Vice Mayor Iyo Bernardo, who is in second place at 30 percent.

Sotto and his slate were set to hold their miting de avance in Plaza Rizal last night.

He reminded their supporters to be on guard against last-minute dirty tactics allegedly employed by their opponents, among them peddling disinformation and fake news through Facebook posts and text messages.

“Let us pray for honest and peaceful elections,” he said.
