Clarify teachers’ poll tasks, DepEd urged
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has been urged to clarify the tasks of the teachers during the election-related school break from May 2 to 13.
The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) said with only a week left before May 2, the DepEd has yet to clarify its instruction regarding poll duties.
“School administrators are confused. Others said just follow to remain safe,” TDC chair Benjo Basas said in Filipino.
The group said some school officials ordered the teachers to report to school during the election break.
“The advisory requires teachers who do not have election-related duties to report to schools on those days. Based on the school calendar, those days were declared as an election break,” Basas said.
The school calendar is contained in DepEd Order 29, which states the number of schools days and dates of class suspensions and activities for school year 2021-2022.
