P5.2 million cigarettes seized in Zamboanga Sibugay

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Smuggled cigarettes with an estimated street value of P5.2 million were seized during a police operation that also resulted in the arrest two persons in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay on Saturday.

The raid in Barangay Caparan was a result of a coordinated efforts of the police, villagers and local officials, according Col. Richard Verseles, operations officer of the area police command in Western Mindanao.

Verseles identified the suspects as Hamid Pallong and Radzmir Ainami, both drivers of two vehicles loaded with master cases of smuggled cigarettes.

Apart from the vehicles, the raiding team also discovered boxes of cigarettes in a warehouse in the area.

The contraband and the suspects were brought to the Ipil police station for documentation.
