119,175 inmates fully vaccinated – BJMP
MANILA, Philippines — At least 119,175 inmates or 92.18 percent of the total population of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology have been fully vaccinated, a BJMP official announced yesterday.
BJMP spokesman Xavier Solda said about 6,215 or 4.81 percent of the inmates are still waiting for their second dose.
“We have to schedule the vaccination and coordinate it with Department of Health and local DOH offices since most of these inmates are newly committed and others have medical concerns,” Solda said.
“We will start administering the second dose vaccination as soon as the COVID vaccines are available,” he added.
Since March 2020, the BJMP has recorded 5,019 COVID-19 cases among inmates. Of the number, 4,886 have recovered and 54 died of the disease.
Solda said the remaining number represents those who have been released from prison.
There are about 129,283 inmates in BJMP detention facilities nationwide.
