Jealousy eyed as motive in actor’s attack on girlfriend

MANILA, Philippines — Actor Keith Thompson reportedly assaulted his girlfriend, actor Ana Jalandoni, during a fit of jealous rage, according to the chief of the Tagaytay City police.
Lt. Col. Rolando Baula said the two were drunk when the incident happened at a hotel in Tagaytay on Friday.
“Nakakaramdam na ‘yung babae ng hindi maayos kaya tinawagan niya ‘yung friend niya (The woman felt something was wrong so she called her friend),” he said in an interview aired over ABS-CBN on Friday.
Due to poor cell phone reception, Jalandoni went to the third floor of the hotel, where she fell asleep after talking to her friend on her cell phone.
Thompson followed Jalandoni and carried her to their room, where he reportedly beat her.
Asked what may have provoked Thompson to physically assault Jalandoni, Baula said the incident stemmed from jealousy.
Police rescued Jalandoni and brought her to a hospital, where she is recuperating from her injuries.
Thompson underwent inquest proceedings on Friday afternoon before the Tagaytay prosecutor’s office for violating Republic Act 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act.
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said probers have gathered the necessary pieces of evidence and witness accounts related to the incident.
“We will wait for the decision of the prosecutor based on his appreciation and evaluation of evidence presented,” he said in a statement.
