Chinese top deportees for second year
MANILA, Philippines — For 2020 and 2021, Chinese nationals topped the list of erring foreigners deported by the Bureau of Immigration.
BI data showed the bureau deported 3,219 foreigners in 2020: 3,009 Chinese, 60 Vietnamese, 40 Koreans, 25 Americans, 20 Japanese, 12 Indians and five Pakistanis.
Forty-eight other foreigners from different countries were also deported in 2020.
From January to November this year, the BI said it deported 3,142 foreigners: 2,875 Chinese, 90 Koreans, 81 Vietnamese, 27 Japanese, 19 Americans and 50 other foreigners from different countries.
BI Deportation and Implementation Unit head Victor Andrew Siriban said the foreigners deported from the Philippines were arrested for being fugitives, undesirable aliens or overstaying in the country.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic will not be a hindrance in ridding the country of illegal foreigners.
He also warned that foreigners blatantly violating the country’s immigration laws would be deported and blacklisted in the Philippines.
