Baguio not yet removing plastic barriers in PUVs

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The city government here has yet to decide on whether to scrap the use of plastic barriers in public utility vehicles (PUVs).

Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association president Pat Evangelista said they favor the use of plastic barriers, but would abide by the decision of the city government.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong has not requested the Department of Transportation to allow the removal of barriers in jeepneys, operators and drivers learned during a recent meeting with Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Cordillera Administrative Region director Lallaine Sobremonte.

The city health office said plastic barriers in PUVs, as long as these are regularly sanitized, are still helpful in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
