Boxer accused of rape tries to kill self
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY , Philippines — Professional boxer Albert Pagara, who was accused of raping a 14-year-old, has tried to commit suicide at his detention cell.
Pagara reportedly tried to hang himself on Thursday using a shoelace, but was prevented by his fellow inmates.
The boxer was worried that the charges to be filed against him would affect his upcoming fight, according to his fellow inmates.
Police are preparing to file charges against Pagara based on the accusation of the victim and her mother.
Initial investigation showed the girl was sleeping at their house in Barangay Inawayan in Cebu City when the boxer molested her.
Pagara denied the allegations, saying he just touched the girl’s private parts.
