Former Las Piñas mayor Nene Aguilar, 74
MANILA, Philippines — Former Las Piñas mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar died yesterday of a heart ailment. He was 74.
Aguilar is the husband of incumbent Las Piñas Mayor Imelda Aguilar and a brother of Sen. Cynthia Villar.
He served the city for 18 years, as municipal mayor from 1995 to 1997 and as city mayor from 1997 to 2004 and 2007 to 2016.
In a Facebook post, Imelda said the Aguilar patriarch died at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City.
“It pains all of us that you are no longer with us, but we know that you have accomplished your mission in this world, not only to your family and loved ones, but to the hundreds of families you have served and supported throughout your years in service,” Imelda’s statement read.
“As the current mayor of Las Piñas, the legacy and selfless public service you have rendered as mayor for 18 years to the people of Las Piñas will serve as my inspiration. Your years as the local chief executive have led to the unprecedented growth of our city,” she added.
