BOC seizes P4 million cigarettes bound for Australia
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) confiscated around P4 million worth of cigarettes that were about to be illegally exported to Australia.
In a statement yesterday, BOC-Ninoy Aquino International Airport district collector Carmelita Talusan said the shipment of 2,520 reams of cigarettes were misdeclared as hand paper towels.
Records show the paper towel shipment was commissioned for export by a local company based in Novaliches, Quezon City. The shipment was supposed to be sent to the city of South Geelong in Victoria, Australia.
Talusan said the case would be referred to the Bureau Action Team Against Smugglers for case buildup and profiling against the persons behind the foiled illegal exportation of tobacco products.
