Sinas: South Korea trader planned own murder
MANILA, Philippines — The investigation of a South Korean businessman’s murder in Valenzuela City took an unexpected twist as probers said the victim may have planned his own death, Philippine National Police chief Gen. Debold Sinas said yesterday.
Citing the findings of the special investigation task group (SITG), Sinas said suspects Kimberly Radores and Rica Estrella claimed the victim, Nam Sunuk, 55, wanted himself killed.
“The crime… according to revelations made by Radores and Estrella in their extra-judicial confession, was staged and planned by the victim himself,” Sinas said in a statement.
According to Sinas, the SITG established “murder for insurance” as a probable motive, but he did not give details.
Eight persons where charged in connection with Sunuk’s murder. They are Radores, Estrella, Rusty Cruz, Josephine Nape, Leana Marie Nagano, Bryan Gulfo, Bryan Escamillas and Cpl. Darwin Castillo, who is assigned with the Manila Police District (MPD).
Sunuk was shot dead in the back seat of his Hyundai Tucson at a vacant lot in Barangay Maysan. The crime was discovered two days later.
Investigators have preserved digital evidence of the reported email messages of the victim to one of the suspects, which Sinas said could further assist them in the probe.
Sinas said the individual participation of the suspects was established based on the pieces of evidence probers had recovered.
