Judge in Maguindanao massacre case nominated to CA

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes, who convicted members of the Ampatuan clan in 2019 for the Maguindanao massacre, has been nominated to the Court of Appeals (CA), according to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).

Solis-Reyes is among the 36 applicants who were nominated by the JBC to President Duterte for one of the six vacancies in the appellate court.

The CA posts were left vacant following the promotion of Justices Rodil Zalameda, Edgardo delos Santos, Mario Lopez and Samuel Gaerlan to the Supreme Court and the retirement of CA magistrates Luisa Padilla and Jane Aurora Lantion.

In December 2019, Solis-Reyes sentenced members of the Ampatuan clan to life in prison without parole after they were found guilty of multiple murder for the Maguindanao massacre in 2009.
