MANILA, Philippines — The Pasig city government yesterday started the distribution of 360,000 Christmas food packs for its residents.

Mayor Vico Sotto personally supervised the activity dubbed “Pamaskong Handog 2020” which will last until the third week of December.

“This is to ensure that all Pasigueño families get their share of noche buena items,” he said in a statement.

Sotto said the gifts will go house-to-house for the distribution as a safety precaution against COVID-19. Visits are also unannounced to avoid crowding, among the common causes for the spread of COVID-19.

Instead of asking recipients to sign acknowledgement receipts, Sotto said the recipients’ PasigPAss quick response or QR codes will be scanned and automatically lodged through a dashboard.

The PasigPAss is a contact tracing system of the city government used to track down persons with COVID-19 and their contacts.

Members of the distribution teams were also subject to swab tests to ensure that they are COVID-19 free and safe to interact with other people.
