San Juan launches digital literacy program

MANILA, Philippines — The San Juan government has launched a digital literacy program that will give public school students access to computer science education amid the distance learning system during the pandemic.

Mayor Francis Zamora signed a memorandum of agreement with Ayala Foundation and Ortigas Land for the program, which will be piloted at the Pinaglabanan Elementary School.

The program was supposed to be launched early this year under face-to-face classes, which have been canceled due to the pandemic.

“Students here in San Juan will benefit from the program. It is a sure edge in terms of being gainfully employed if the students were digitally trained and competitive early on,” Zamora said in a statement.

San Juan had also been the pilot city for the Department of Information and Communications Technology projects such as free Wi-Fi hotspots in public places.
